Journey With Me to Fitness: Weight Check Week 1

Journey With Me to Fitness: Weight Check Week 1

Where I am mentally at today

A few months ago I wrote about preparing for a ketogenic diet. I talked to my coach (I was doing a program through my doctor’s office) and she and I agreed my life was just a little too crazy with all the trips I would be taking to stay on a keto diet. Life is just as crazy. In some ways more so today. While I’d like to take on a keto diet again, I am not in a position to do so right now.

I still want to take on my weight.

In the posts since then, I’ve mentioned my weight casually. After much thought and discussion with my husband, I decided I needed external accountability and a plan. To that end, I am engaging in two types of accountability. The first is to write a weekly weight check. I hope you hold me accountable. I would love to do the same for you. If you comment or contact me via email at mommabee@8busybees.com we can be partners in this.

The second way is a more personal accountability. I am fortunate to have a friend and neighbor who has a degree in exercise science. She also has her personal trainer certification and has built up a gym in her home. I started meeting with her twice a week at the beginning of last week. I know twice a week is not much, but it is what I need to wade into better fitness. We are working on core strength, balance, flexibility and muscle strength. She’s encouraging me to walk more and to try macro counting for my meals. She had a rough year and used macros to shed the extra pounds she gained from emotional eating.

Where I was almost two weeks ago

Knowing I would be spending at least one day in at Disney World, I started walking more before the conference. I think the exercise is helping, because my back wasn’t as sore as it usually is after one mile. I also didn’t have to use my back brace. I bought some clothes from Target and the second-hand store before the conference. I got a couple of pairs of pants because I didn’t have anything nice enough for the conference that fit. The shirts I got at Target I bought for my body type. Hopefully they will keep working for me even after I lose weight.

At the end of my conference, I was up a few pounds. I weighed in at 223. I did try to eat sensibly at my blogging conference, but yes, I really did enjoy that blueberry cream-cheese mousse with passion fruit curd at Sa’tuli Canteen in Animal Kingdom.

I also enjoyed the spare ribs at Morimotos.

A lot.

With all the sitting I did for four days, it’s a wonder I didn’t gain more.

My plan and results so far

Now that I am actively working out to build muscle balance and core strength, I hope to get stronger as the weeks go by. I know that muscle weighs more than fat, and I’m okay with that. Muscle also burns more calories at rest. This means my weight may not actually go down much at first, but I may still be trimming up.

I will tell you my hamstrings hurt for a few days with all the squats I did. So do my arms. Actually, change that to “my whole body has been sore.”

My win for this week? My pants have started to feel a tiny bit looser. I am glad I only paid a few dollars for each of them. I hope they keep getting loose.

And today’s weight? 217.6

Yay! I know some of this may be water weight loss. Water weight can make you fluctuate many pounds in my experience, so I try to weigh myself at the same time each week to help account for that fact and mitigate it. Still, I will take whatever loss I can.

I’m moving forward and that is a good thing.

See you here next week and have a “bee”-utiful day!
