It’s July 14, and not only is it Bastille Day in France (technically la Fête nationale or le 14 Juilet), but France is playing in the World Cup finals tomorrow. In honor of these two momentous events, I’ve put together a roundup of creative ways to celebrate the day.
Food
Make or eat some French food
You can use many of your red, white and blue foods to represent blue, white and red like these blue velvet cupcakes from Desserts With Benefits
You can even make architectural shapes out of your food. By far the most popular thing I found was shaping food to look like the Eiffel Tower.
Using wafers at Edible Crafts
Use pretzels at Make the Best of Everything
These amazing cookies at Sweetopia
Or these at Life’s a Batch
Do a more healthy take with fruits at Art of Nutrition
Or at kiddie foodies
Crafts
Make and use blue, white and red soaps
The Nerdy Farm Wife uses natural materials to color her soap.
Or you can make candles-the obvious bonus being that they too can be used for Independence Day in the USA.
Have the kids make placemats. These came from the Real Thing with the Coake Family.
Tour de France crafts
Make some dolls out of toilet paper rolls.
And Madeline 1 and 2
Or make them out of wooden spoons
Miniature Paris City Scape
Eiffel Tower Inspired
Straw art and lessons about it
Or this one
Art Masterpieces
Celebrate Bastille Day as well as some of the great art you can find in one of the many museums.
Use Van Gigi’s Starry Night or Starry Night Over the Rhône (at the Musée d’Orsay) as inspiration for more creations
The bridge Monet painted so many times.
Picasso inspired works. The Musée Picasso is in Paris.
Education
Teach your kids some educational facts about France.

Or color a soccer ball in your favorite colors….
